Blood Brain Barrier

There is a membrane around the brain called the blood brain barrier which stops most substances from getting through. Sadly this also stops medication from getting through. A Canadian team of researchers found a way to penetrate the membrane by injecting tiny bubbles into the blood of a patient. Then they focused the ultrasound waves on that spot which made the bubbles vibrate and push their way through the blood brain barrier, carrying the medication with them.

Alzheimers Treatment

A team of researchers from Australia are hoping to have found a cure for Alzheimers. Alzheimers is a disease caused by a build up of plaque in the brain and patients suffer from memory loss. The hopeful cure was tested on mice and 75 percent of them got their memory back. What they do is they use ultrasound waves to break up the plaque.
